The National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) is responsible for exercising regulatory control over a diverse range of facilities including the operation of nuclear power reactors, research reactors, nuclear fuel fabrication, nuclear technology applications and the mining and processing of uranium and other radioactive ores. Their primary function is to provide for the protection of people, environment and property from the harmful effects arising from ionizing radiation produced by radioactive materials.

Mr. Mwase possesses extensive expertise in strategic planning as well as research and development in the field of nuclear engineering. During his collegiate career, he earned a Nuclear Engineering degree from the University of Cape Town, graduating with Honors. Joe is a member of the University of Cape Town Alumni.
